SAMPATH AMUNUGAMA (b. 1975 Sri Lanka)
Amunugama’s charcoal and acrylic canvases are predominantly figurative and reflect an evolving exploration of the human psyche. Using a limited colour palette, primarily of black, white, greys and browns, he applies colour to present good and evil, and the murky in-between which presents the momentum of spiritual development or demise.
Sampath completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka in 2004 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya soon after.
He has participated in solo and group exhibitions, locally and internationally, since 1995. He was a winner of the Merit Award for the prestigious George Keyt Foundation Art Prize, 2006.
